This method involves 'scratching' the unfired clay with a sharp, fine point tool, exposing raw bisque that defines the hand-painted decoration applied post-firing. This classic technique dates back to ancient cultures such as Egypt and Greece, and was perfected in Italian art of the 15th and 16th centuries, adorning entire building facades with epic mural art.
